Chumba Casino Review

Chumba Casino is a social casino site that opened in 2012. It is operated by parent company Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW), which also operates a social poker room called Global Poker.

Social gaming sites circumnavigate U.S. gambling laws, allowing players to access casinos with real money prizes. Chumba manages this by using a combination of two virtual currencies – $weeps Cash and Gold Coins. Using this innovative system, Chumba lets U.S. players sign up and play a range of casino games. This includes more than 40 slots, blackjack, and more.

How does Chumba work?

Games at Chumba don’t directly offer cash prizes, nor can they be played with cash. Instead, bettors play with one of two virtual currencies, Gold Coins or $weeps Cash ($C).

When they first log in, every new Chumba player gets 100,000 Gold Coins to start. These are not worth any actual money and cannot be exchanged for cash prizes.

$weeps Cash, on the other hand, can be swapped for United States dollars (USD) once a player has amassed at least $C100.

Players can’t actually purchase $weeps Cash, though. Instead, Chumba bundles it for free as part of a deal when players buy more Gold Coins. Players can get 90,000 Gold Coins and $10 worth of $C for just $5 with their first purchase. After the first purchase, this joint Gold Coins and $weeps package costs $10.

Using this ‘free’ $weeps Cash system means Chumba can legally allow players to exchange the $C for cash prizes.

Chumba has worked with top lawyers to ensure this system is watertight, and they have been operating successfully now for nearly seven years.

Ways to play at Chumba Casino

Chumba Casino can be accessed via its website across browsers, or through Facebook’s social gaming section. Chumba doesn’t have a dedicated mobile app for any platform, but they have ensured their website runs smoothly on most modern devices.

The Chumba Casino site adapts nicely to whatever screen size a user is playing on, which makes finding a chosen game or selecting the next move a cinch. That should even cover players on relatively old Android, iOS, or tablet models.

Chumba’s game selection

There are 43 titles in Chumba’s slots collection, although they add to this number fairly regularly. Their selection covers traditional, three-reel titles, along with more modern, 40-plus payline, big-jackpot games, including:

  • Doctor Voltage
  • Super Dazzling 7s
  • Duskmoon Faire: Jackpot
  • Mayan Bounty

Most slots fans should be happy with Chumba’s selection. Recently, Chumba even added a couple of slots, namely Reelin’ & Rockin’ and Stampede Fury, that share a big-money progressive jackpot. When we were conducting this review, it stood at $C1.5 million. That’s a hefty prize compared to those of 95% of online slot games.

Chumba also has a collection of titles inspired by bigger-budget, well-known slots. For example, King of Gods is similar in theme and style to NetEnt’s Hall of Gods, and Nefertiti’s Gold mirrors the classic IGT slot Cleopatra. This is not necessarily a bad thing, especially for the many U.S. players who can’t otherwise legally experience these titles. However, it would be nice to see some more originality from some of Chumba’s games.

For the most part, Chumba’s slots share the same minimum and maximum bets. The lowest bet per spin on all of them is $C0.01. This should be fantastic for penny-slots players. The top bets vary a bit more, but most slots have a high of $C10 per spin.

Table games

Fans of table games may feel shortchanged by Chumba. There’s only one table game available, and that’s blackjack. A fairly simple variant of this casino classic, Chumba Blackjack doesn’t offer many side bets or other features, either. Players can still double up on dealt aces or get insurance should the dealer pull an ace on their opening cards.

Bets start at $C1 and go up to $C250 a hand.

Video poker

Chumba’s only video poker title is a standard jacks-or-better variant.

Players are given five cards. They must pick the best potential poker hand from them, before any unchosen cards are swapped. Bets are paid out on hands made after the swaps.

Prizes start at $C1 and go all the way up to $C4000 on a maximum-bet royal flush.

The paytable here is extremely clear, making play simple even for video poker newbies.

Wagers start at $C1 and go up to $C5. That’s 900x the player’s wager when hitting the maximum prize.

Depositing at Chumba

Players can’t deposit at Chumba in the usual way. Instead, they must purchase Gold Coins packs that come bundled with free $weeps Cash on top.

Players can only purchase packs with a Visa or Mastercard. These are both internationally recognized payment methods, but most players would appreciate a wider range of options.

Withdrawals are also made through the same methods. $weeps Cash is exchanged at a one-to-one rate for USD, but only after players have amassed $C100 or more.

All $weeps Cash given in bundles must be wagered once before it is eligible for withdrawal.

Chumba Casino is not a typical casino, so standard online gambling promotions won’t be applicable here. Options such as deposit-match bonuses or free spins just aren’t viable in this situation.

As far as we could see, there’s only one offer available at Chumba. That is the welcome promotion, which gives a half-priced 90,000 Gold Coins and $C10 for $5. After that, each package will cost $10.

Chumba Casino customer support

There are three ways for those with a query or a problem to contact Chumba:

Their site also includes a help section that explains the $weeps Cash and Gold Coins system. It is long and fairly helpful but could do with better presentation. Other than that, Chumba’s support documentation is quite minimal.

That extends to the games as well. None of them have a description or introduction outside of the game where their paytable information is located. A method of previewing the games would be beneficial.

Licensing and legality

Chumba Casino is licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). The small, Mediterranean island of Malta is home to many online gaming companies, and the MGA license is one of the most respected European options available.

Chumba’s parent company VGW was specifically founded to create social gaming sites that skirt U.S. gambling regulations. They have been operating openly for over seven years without any legal trouble.

Chumba does not have the big-budget slots titles or the huge selection of table games offered by many giant casinos, but what it does offer is a safe and legal place for U.S. bettors to play for USD cash prizes online.
