How points & tiers work
The rewards program consists of three categories: Tier Credits, MGM Rewards Points, and BetMGM Rewards Points. Tier Credits qualify you for status and perks, MGM Rewards Points are redeemable for hotel rooms and experiences at MGM properties, and BRPs are redeemable for different bonuses, transferred to partners, or transferred into MGM Rewards Points. Everything is tracked, and any special offers will appear within the MGM Rewards app.
We’ll start with a dive into the tier credits and status.
Tier credits and status
Tier Credits upgrade your status as an MGM customer. Moving up the tier credit ladder unlocks more perks through MGM. You can accrue Tier Credits through spending on “hotel folio” charges, as MGM calls it, and through playing at BetMGM’s casino and sportsbook, either online or in person.
Hotel folio charges include room rate, MGM owned restaurants and bars, shows, spa charges, and more. Basically, just taxes, tips, and complimentary rewards are not included.
- $1 spent = four Tier Credits
For sportsbook play at MGM:
- $100 straight bet at -300 or longer odds = 20 Tier Credits
- $100 parlay bet at +200 or longer odds = 50 Tier Credits
For poker:
- $100 in tournament fees = 500 Tier Credits
Casino play at MGM for Tier Credits is a bit trickier. Deep dives on Reddit claim that the hold of the casino played determines the Tier Credits you receive.
According to one Reddit user: “8TC / $1 Theo. Every theoretical dollar the house wins on a slot or table will earn you 8 tc’s”
Unfortunately, this is not published directly through MGM, so it’s difficult to say the exact amount you can collect via casino play. One thing is for certain though, always use a player’s card while playing. Earning something is better than nothing.
I’ve personally had dinners comped, extra slot dollars sent my way, and extra discounts/comped rooms for my casino play at MGM.
Take a look below at how many credits you need to advance to each level within MGM Rewards, along with each tier’s benefits.
Tier | Credits | Perks and benefits |
---|---|---|
Sapphire | 0 to 19,999 | Discounted room rates and entertainment |
Pearl | 20,000 to 75,000 | Free parking, bonus slot play, more personalized offers |
Gold | 75,000 to 200,000 | No resort fee, priority check-in lines, $100 dining credit |
Platinum | 200,000 and up | $600 air travel credit, $200 dining credit, annual five-day cruise benefit, complimentary early check-in and late check-out |
Noir | Invite only | $1,200 air travel credit, $500 dining credit, annual seven-day cruise benefit, VIP lounge access, dedicated VIP host, guaranteed hotel reservations w/24-hour notice |
It’s important to note that Tier Credits reset after Dec. 31 each year, but tier status lasts through February of the following year.
From a pure Tier Credit earning perspective, for a casual online casino player or sports bettor who occasionally stays at MGM properties (Sapphire Tier), this program is in line with all of its competitors.
For a mid-tier to more serious gambler (Pearl to Gold Tier), this program is less valuable than competitors like Caesars. Comparable tiers at Caesars are quicker to reach than at MGM.
Finally, a dollar goes farther at MGM for a serious in-person tournament poker player or a VIP high roller who spends money in the hotel folio category. A ton of properties in the Las Vegas area makes it even sweeter for those located in that area.
For example, at Caesars, the Diamond Elite Tier — comparable to the Platinum Tier at MGM — requires 75,000 tier credits vs. 200,000 for Platinum Tier. That’s 2.66x the tier credits, but members earn 4x on hotel folio purchases at MGM vs. 1x at Caesars, as well as the 5x on poker tournament entry fees, something that varies over at Caesars.
MGM Rewards: Earning and redemption
MGM Rewards points accumulate for every dollar you spend on or at an MGM property. You’ll receive one Rewards Point for every $1 you spend at an MGM property. You’ll also accrue Rewards Points on casino play, but similar to the Tier Credits, that information is not outlined.
Customers also will earn Slot Dollars while playing slot machines, video poker, and video lottery terminals at MGM resorts. You can redeem Slot Dollars for free play at MGM properties. Slot dollars are unique to MGM Rewards and a huge positive for anyone who only plays slots.
Once customers accumulate enough points, they’ll want to use them, right?
Customers have an abundance of redemption options. From simply booking a room at an MGM property to a dinner, for example, at Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio overlooking the fountains, to a famous show like Tournament of Kings at Excalibur, or for a table at a club like Marquee in the Cosmopolitan, there are countless options.
The rewards points are worth 1 cent. So 100 points = $1 toward an MGM experience.
For Sapphire members, rewards points expire after six months of inactivity. For members in any higher tier, rewards points will not expire.
The main thing to remember is to use the player card for EVERYTHING while at an MGM property. Paying the bill for dinner? Offer a player card. Sitting down to gamble? Hand the dealer a player card. Booking a stay? Ensure a player card is on the reservation.
On-property perks by tier (Vegas & nationwide)

BetMGM online casino and sportsbook
MGM has a dedicated rewards program for its BetMGM online casino. By signing up for BetMGM’s online sportsbook and casino app, you automatically enroll in the BetMGM rewards program to earn BRPs.
BetMGM online app customers have a rigid structure for earning points:
- $100 straight bet at -110 odds = 20 BRPs
- $100 parlay bet at + 300 odds = 50 BRPs
- $100 wagered on slots and instant win games = 20 BRPs
- $100 wagered on progressive jackpot slots = 10 BRPs
- $100 wagered on live table games (blackjack, roulette, etc.) = 4 BRPs
When it comes to earning BRPs, your tier status comes into play, as well. At Pearl status, you earn a 10% multiplier on BRPs. This increases incrementally by 10% at each tier and caps out at 40% with Noir status. A higher tier status = more BRP earning.
When it comes to spending those same BRPs, there is flexibility. Here is a breakdown of the options:
- Online sportsbook bonuses (odds boost and no-sweat tokens)
- 1,500 BRPs = $25 no sweat token
- Online casino bonuses
- 100 BRPs = $1 casino bonus
- Online poker bonuses
- 800 BRPS = $10 poker bonus
- Marriott Bonvoy partner point
- 1 BRP = 1 MBP
- MGM Rewards Point transfer
- 300 BRPS = $5 MGM rewards
- Merchandise (multiple options)
- 2,500 BRPs = MGM New Era hat
One option to note here is the Marriott Bonvoy partnership. You can transfer your BRPs into Marriott Bonvoy points and stay at their locations. This is a big benefit, considering most of MGM’s properties are located in Las Vegas within the US. The partnership with Bonvoy allows customers to put their rewards toward a vacation outside of MGM properties. That’s something other rewards programs don’t have!
Marriott Bonvoy will also match your tier status at MGM.
- MGM Gold = Bonvoy Silver Elite
- MGM Platinum = Bonvoy Gold Elite
- MGM Noir = Bonvoy Ambassador Elite
MGM Rewards Mastercard points
MGM Rewards offers two Mastercard credit card options. One is a basic credit card with no annual fee, and the other offers more perks with a hefty annual fee. Overall, these credit cards are probably not worth it unless you are truly loyal to MGM and spend a lot of time at its properties each year. Otherwise, a standard travel credit card offers very similar perks with a more widespread application.

Loyalty sentiment | Best for Vegas, great perks for VIPs | Most widespread, better perks at lower tiers | For loyal Wynn customers mainly |
Comped rating: 4.3 / 5
Overall, MGM has a lot of high-end properties, especially in Las Vegas, and its rewards program favors the high rollers who spend a lot of time at those properties. The MGM hotel portfolio is less widespread than Caesars but makes up for it in quality. The program also offers a partnership with Marriott Bonvoy to make up for its lower number of resorts outside of Las Vegas.
You can move up the lower-level tiers slightly more quickly at Caesars, but you’ll benefit more at MGM if you are a bigger spender. The opinion in several recent online discussions is that the rewards programs are not as strong as they used to be with the emergence of online gaming in many states. While this is true, MGM Rewards still offers valuable perks to its customers and is worthwhile to take part in.
