Tropicana Atlantic City Joining The NJ Sports Betting Fray

Tropicana Atlantic City has finally released a plan for sports betting, and it involves a very popular New Jersey sportsbook partner.

Last week, Tropicana Atlantic City announced it is entering into a partnership with William Hill Race & Sports Book to open up a sportsbook in its North Tower Casino.

Specific details and a time frame for launch have yet to be released. However, Tropicana Atlantic City General Manager Steve Callender said the plan involves opening a sportsbook and sports betting kiosks throughout the property:

“Tropicana Atlantic City is proud to partner with William Hill Race & Sports Book – America’s sports betting leader. We pride ourselves on creating unique and exciting experiences for our guests at Tropicana Atlantic City, and our sports betting offering will meet those expectations.

“A brand new venue is being created to host sports betting in the North Tower Casino, with kiosks located throughout the property. We offer several sports bars to watch all the games while enjoying your favorite food and drinks including A Dam Good Sports Bar, Hooters, Chickie’s & Pete’s and Ri Ra Irish Pub. We are excited to share more details about Tropicana Atlantic City’s sports book in the coming weeks”

William Hill US

William Hill is Nevada’s largest sportsbook operator. It owns a big chunk of the burgeoning NJ sports betting market already.

Early this year, the company partnered with Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport to launch the first sportsbook in the state. The Monmouth Park Sports Book by William Hill opened June 14. Two weeks later, Ocean Resort Casino opened on the Atlantic City Boardwalk with a temporary William Hill sportsbook.

William Hill soft-launched a mobile sports betting app on Sept. 2. Then, on Sept. 6, the permanent $6 million, 7,500-square-foot William Hill Sports Book at Ocean Resort opened in the middle of the casino floor at Ocean Resort Casino.

William Hill and Eldorado Resorts

William Hill US is a longtime partner of Eldorado Resorts, which is taking over casino operations at Tropicana. This move is part of the property’s sale to Penn National Gaming real estate investment trust Gaming and Leisure Properties. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before William Hill came in to launch sports betting on the property.

Now that the deal is done, William Hill US CEO Joe Asher is promising to build a first-class operation:

“We are excited to partner with the Tropicana in Atlantic City to build a first-class sports book in the heart of the world famous Boardwalk. The Tropicana has been a great property in Atlantic City for many years and we can’t wait to be a part of it.”
